Arsenal 4-0 Standard Liege: Gabriel Martinelli scores twice in rout

Arsenal vs S Liege
Europa League Group F
8:00pm Thursday 3rd October

Emirates Stadium

Gabriel Martinelli scored just two goals and set up another as a heavily rotated Arsenal side turned to the style to thrash Standard Liege 4-0 within their Europa League Group F assembly.
Teenager Martinelli, a 6m signing from side Ituano through the summertime, started the scoring with a superb header after 13 minutes and netted his second with a low, curling end only 3 minutes after, which makes it four goals from two matches after his dual against Nottingham Forest at the Carabao Cup.
Joe Willock struck Arsenals third goal (22) after a shot from fellow academy grad Reiss Nelson redirected into his path inside the normal Liege box, with Dani Ceballos finishing the scoring in the second half, poking Martinellis deft cross over the line for his first goal for the club (57).
Unai Emerys negative overlooked a set of chances to extend their lead in the closing stages, but the victory is another step towards the Europa League knockout stages following the 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening group game.
