NASCAR at Watkins Glen picks, odds: Kyle Busch going for weekend sweep

Who takes the checkered flag?

Here are our picks for the last road race of this season.

Winner: Kyle Busch
Rowdy is out for blood after taking his first checkered flag of the season a week at Pocono. After winning his first Xfinity Series race at The Glen on Saturday, Busch begins in the pole on Sunday as he chases his third career win at the track. From our point of view, as long as Busch doesn’t wreck or see his motor neglect, he should at least finish in the top five.

Contenders: Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr..
We’re simply not prepared to give up about the 2016 championship runner-up, particularly after his second-place complete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Logano marched his Cup crew out on Saturday and they did not disappoint. His team knows it is win or go home, so anticipate the 2015 Watkins Glen winner to take his shot Victory Lane on Sunday. In terms of Truex Jr., nicely his r??sum?? speaks for itself. The points leader possesses three race wins, 14 period wins, eight top-fives plus a 29 playoff points. Truex Jr. led the most overall laps at Sonoma in June before suffering engine failure with just 25 to go. Best think he has not forgotten about that…

Wild Card: AJ Allmendinger
We’re not so high on the road course specialist back in Sonoma, and for good reason. Despite winning a point in June, Allmendinger finished 35th. This time around we think that it’s going to differ. Despite a run in practice, the results at Watkins Glen of Allmendinger talk for themselves. Besides a triumph in 2014, he has a normal finish inside the top 10 in eight career starts there. Don’t be surprised if Allmendinger performs spoiler to a motorist on the playoff bubble Sunday.
